A COUPLE of visitors
to Clermont will be taking home a very
nice souvenir a whopping 15.25
ounce gold nugget worth about $12,000.
The couple normally head to Western Australia
for their annual Fossicking expedition
but this year came to Clermont to try
their luck. The couple, who wished to
remain anonymous, stayed for seven weeks
and only fossicked in the General Permission
Areas of the state forests around
Clermont. Among their finds was a 15.25
ounce gold nugget. They also found more
than they did in the three months spent
in Western Australia last year. "We
had to come up this way to attend a
wedding, so we thought we might stop in
at Clermont and try our luck here,’’
the man said. "And I’m glad we
did, the friend-ship of the people in
Clermont is so warm and welcoming.
"To top it off we had Lady Luck smile
on us during our Fossicking. "Years
of reading the lay of the land helps.’’
The couple stayed at the Clermont Caravan
Park during their visit. "That just
goes to show that there is still plenty of gold here in Clermont,’’
